Run 14 2 with ground sheathed electrical cable from.
Get power from light switch.
The switch serves to cut the power from reaching the light switch.
The answer to this depends on how the existing circuit is wired.
You just want to put power to the switch then onto a light.
Flipping the switch interrupts the flow of electricity to the light turning it off and on.
You do not want the switch to control the outlet.
This wire is needed to complete the circuit.
Once the power source has been located a cable will need to be installed from that location to the location of the new light switch.

Next the wiring may extend out to the light switch where only the black power wire is connected through the switch and the white neutral wires are spliced together.
The ground wire sometimes in a green jacket should be connected to your switch and to your lights.
If the power comes to the light outlet first and then goes to the switch then this can be done fairly easily as long as the outlet is accessible isn t too full of wires already because the unswitched power is available as well as the switched wire that is connected to the light.
If power comes into the switch box first the neutral white line from the service panel and the white line that leads to the light are spliced together.
The white or neutral wire bypasses the switch and goes straight to your lights.
The hot black wire from the power source travels through the switch and from there to the light.
A typical source of power would be from an existing wall outlet in the same area or room.
Turn the power off at the breaker.
